Fedora 35 – Playing DVDs

During a recent fresh install of Fedora 35 I had trouble finding believable documentation on how to set it up to play DVDs. So here is a brief guide using vlc as a player.

The key component, libdvdcss, is not provided by the main Fedora repositories so the process is broken down into the following stages:-

  • Add the required repositories
  • Install libdvdcss
  • Install a player of your choice

Add the required repositories

sudo dnf install rpmfusion-free-release rpmfusion-free-release-tainted

Install libdvdcss

sudo dnf install libdvdcss

Install a player of your choice

I use vlc.

sudo dnf install vlc

… and you are finished.
